In honor of National Women in Construction Week 2023, we are highlighting the variety of roles at Moriarty from the perspective of our women employees. This morning’s spotlight is on the Project Executive role:
“My name is Marna Wessels, and I’m a Project Executive working on the Sanofi Day 2 and JATC Reno projects in the Moriarty Massachusetts office. I have worked in construction for 30 years and I’ve been with Moriarty for 10 years. Our project team entered these projects in the last stretch of completion to spearhead any equipment installations or changes that the client desires post-TCO. This includes MEP coordination, submitting RFIs, material and equipment procurement, and managing the subcontractors daily. All of this happens within a tight schedule and an occupied facility that has a limited tolerance for shutdowns or downtime. It is important that we have a quick turnaround with change requests so we can anticipate supply chain constraints. The most rewarding aspect of my job is using imaginative solutions to solve complex equipment installations that have little or no design direction. I also enjoy the continued education; I have been working in labs since 1998, yet still encounter new fascinating equipment every day. Since starting this project by myself, our team has grown 5 members. With absolute conviction, I can say these are the most entertaining, talented, supportive, and hardworking individuals I’ve ever had the privilege to call colleagues. Sometimes we work long hours, but we keep it fun! To those who are new to the industry, my advice is to be curious, never hesitate to ask questions, do your own research, and expand your offering. If you’re a field engineer who wants to learn estimating or the IOR, ask for opportunities to broaden your knowledge base. Prior to working at Moriarty, I worked in many other aspects of construction: owner’s representative, consultant, development, and construction management. In general, Moriarty’s culture is what sets us apart – the employees here care. Not only about their personal contributions, but also the overall success of the team and the company.”
