In honor of National Women in Construction Week 2023, we are highlighting the variety of roles at Moriarty from the perspective of our women employees. This morning’s spotlight is on Safety:
“My name is Lauren Shilo and I’m a Safety Administrator in the Moriarty Virginia office; I’ve worked here a little over 2.5 years. The great thing about my job is that I have a lot of flexibility. I can spend my days entirely in the office or field. Days in the office are spent updating company safety documentation & individual projects, following up on incidents, and creating various types of safety content. I’m also responsible for tracking company safety training & scheduling safety training classes. I work with instructors, both external & internal to the company, ensuring employees have (at a minimum) basic safety training. I’m also an instructor for incident reporting & crisis management trainings here at JMA. My days spent in the field usually include walking the site with our safety supervisors to find and abate hazards. Time spent in the field is one of my favorite parts of the job because it’s never the same day twice. There is always new work going on, new subcontractors on site, and new hazards to be wary of. Being out in the field also allows me to work & learn from a variety of people within JMA, not just the safety team, which gives me insight into the construction process and what goes into the work. I work with a great team of safety professionals who are very dedicated to what they do, promoting JMA Safety culture. Our main goal is to make sure that everyone goes home safely at the end of each day, and the whole team works hard to help make that happen!”
